New Wheat Crosses Boost Grain Yield, Paving Way for Improved Harvests.
A study was conducted on wheat plants to see how mixing different types of wheat parents affects the traits of their offspring. Some combinations showed better grain yield than their parents, while inbreeding sometimes led to lower yields. Certain cross combinations like HD2967 × WH1080 and PBW343 × RSP561 showed significant improvements in grain yield. This means there is potential to create better wheat varieties by mixing different types of wheat parents.
