New sorghum hybrids promise higher yields and faster maturity for farmers.
The researchers studied different sorghum plants to find ones that produce high yields of grain early in the season. They looked at four male sterile lines and twelve testers, making a total of 48 crosses. They found that one specific line (RMS 2010-10A) and one tester (RSV 1941) were the best at producing high grain yields quickly. These two plants should be used more in breeding programs to create sorghum hybrids that give a lot of grain and mature early.
