Remote Villages in Sudan Gain Access to Sustainable Water Supply Through Satellite Mapping
In rural areas with little access to water, a new method called Remote Sensing Data Based Surface Rainwater Harvesting was tested. By analyzing satellite data, scientists identified spots to collect rainwater efficiently. They found that these new locations can store way more water than the old systems. In fact, in residential areas, they can hold 82 times more water, and in agricultural areas, they can hold 8 times more water. This means using this new approach could help bring more water to remote rural places and reduce water scarcity there.
