New Tomato Varieties Boost Yields and Quality for Farmers
Genetic variability, heritability, and genetic advance were assessed in 40 tomato lines to understand their potential for crop improvement. The study found high genetic variability among the genotypes, with traits like total chlorophyll content, total fruit yield, and root volume showing significant differences. Traits such as total chlorophyll content, total fruit yield, root volume, pericarp thickness, plant height, and number of fruits per plant had high heritability estimates. The highest genetic advance was observed in total chlorophyll content, number of fruits per plant, and total fruit yield. This suggests that focusing on total chlorophyll content and number of fruits could lead to achieving maximum fruit yield in tomatoes.
