New equations revolutionize tree biomass estimation in Indonesian community forests!
Researchers in Indonesia developed equations to estimate the biomass of trees in community forests without having to cut them down. They studied four tree species and found that the best equation to estimate total tree biomass was accurate 90.8% of the time. The equations used tree diameter and height to predict the amount of biomass in different parts of the tree, like the stem, branches, roots, and leaves. This method can help measure tree biomass more efficiently in community forests, which is important for understanding their role in offsetting carbon emissions.
