Historical soil data transformed for better accuracy in modern classifications.
The researchers harmonized old soil data from Czechoslovakia with modern standards. They used different methods to convert the old soil units to new ones based on the World Reference Base. The results showed that specific soil types matched closely with their new counterparts, while more variable soils had multiple matches. The accuracy of the conversion varied across different soil types, with some being classified correctly and others not. This study demonstrates the potential of using modern methods to update old soil data, but also highlights the importance of critically evaluating historical databases for accuracy.
