The article explores how different parts of a company's headquarters affect how much knowledge its overseas research and development (R&D) subsidiaries share. By looking at where subsidiaries report within the headquarters, the researchers found that subsidiaries reporting to the corporate R&D headquarters share more external knowledge, while those reporting to divisional headquarters share less. Subsidiaries reporting to top management share more internal knowledge, while those reporting to regional headquarters share less. This shows that where subsidiaries report within a company's headquarters influences how they share knowledge with others.
