Plastic mulches boost tomato yields, but impact varies by season
Different types of mulch were tested to see how they affect tomato growth and yield. The researchers tried various materials like colored plastic films and rice straw in two different seasons to see what works best. They found that the color of the mulch affected the soil temperature, with darker colors sometimes making it too hot for the plants to grow well in the summer. In the winter, yellow and silver plastic films helped tomato plants grow better after 40 days, while green and silver films increased the yield by around a third. So, the type of mulch used can really change how well tomatoes grow and how many you get, depending on the time of year.
