Zooplankton community in Lake Baikal undergoes significant restructuring since 2002.
The researchers studied the zooplankton community in Lake Baikal from 1997 to 2019. They found that there were changes in the types and amounts of zooplankton in Mukhor Bay and the pelagic zone. Since 2002, there have been more rotifers in Mukhor Bay, and the dominant species changed. In 2018-2019, the zooplankton community in the pelagic zone also went through a restructuring.
