Deforestation in Peruvian Amazon threatens biodiversity and indigenous communities.
The study looked at changes in land use in four areas of the Peruvian Amazon. Researchers used satellite data to compare accuracy in identifying land use changes. In one area, called Tournavista, there was a noticeable decrease in closed-canopy forest cover. This was mainly due to the conversion of forested areas into agricultural land and secondary forests. The findings show that land cover change is happening in the Peruvian Amazon, with significant impacts on the region's forests.
