Automated Louvres and Smart Glazing Revolutionize Daylighting, Enhancing Comfort and Energy Savings
The scientists found a new way to control shading systems in buildings to make the most of natural light while keeping out excess sunlight. By using a special method with adjustable slats, they directed sunlight towards the ceiling to spread it evenly in the room, reducing the need for artificial lighting. They combined these slats with smart windows that change with the sun's movement and brightness. The aim was to ensure a consistent level of daylight in the office to keep people comfortable and save energy. Tests were done in Egypt and the UK, as well as in a real office at a university. This approach could help deep-plan buildings get better light coverage and be more energy-efficient.
