Fungi offer solution for soil pollution with petroleum and toxic metals
Fungi can help clean up soil contaminated with both oil and toxic metals. Factors like soil type, enzymes, and temperature affect how well fungi can clean up the pollutants. Current research mostly focuses on removing or breaking down one type of pollutant at a time. Not much is known about how fungi respond to both pollutants together. New technologies like DGT and metabolomics could help us understand and improve fungal cleanup of polluted soil.
