Shrubland identified as key to reducing water erosion in China's Loess Plateau.
The study looked at how different types of land use affect runoff and soil loss in the Loess Plateau of China. By analyzing data from 55 sites, they found that bare soil had the highest runoff and soil loss, while natural grassland and mixed forest had the lowest. Shrubland was the best at reducing water and sediment in areas with moderate rainfall. The type of land use also influenced the relationship between soil loss and runoff based on slope and plot length. This information can help in managing soil and water conservation in the region.
