Boosting Rice-Fallows with Pulses and Oilseeds for Higher Yields and Profits
The researchers conducted a field experiment in Tungabhadra command area to find ways to improve rice farming sustainability. They tested different rice varieties and cropping systems with pulses and oilseeds. The results showed that the variety Kaverisona had higher grain yields compared to BPT-5204. Fieldbean in the rice-fieldbean system had the highest yields, while sesame in the rice-sesame system had lower yields. The rice-fieldbean system also generated higher profits than leaving the field fallow. This study suggests that growing pulses and oilseeds alongside rice can help increase yields and income for farmers in the area.
