New herbicides show promise in controlling winter crop weeds without harm.
The researchers tested different herbicides to see which ones were best at controlling three troublesome weeds in wheat and pea crops during the winter season. They found that pre-emergence herbicides like pendimethalin and trifluralin were effective at stopping the weeds from sprouting. A mix of Clodinafop and MSM worked well against all three weeds. Clodinafop alone was good for one weed, while sulfosulfuron and metribuzin were better for broad-leaved weeds. Some herbicides caused harm to the wheat and pea crops, like trifluralin affecting wheat and Clodinafop + MSM and sulfosulfuron affecting peas.
