New rice study reveals key traits for higher yields and quality.
Researchers studied 73 types of rice to understand the genetic differences in traits like grain yield, plant height, and spikelet fertility. They found significant variations among the genotypes for all 18 traits examined. Traits with the highest potential for improvement through selection were number of grains per panicle, spikelet fertility, grain yield per plant, and plant height. This suggests that these traits can be enhanced through genetic effects.
