Intercropping cotton with vegetables boosts yields and profits in drylands.
The study aimed to find the best way to grow cotton and vegetables together in dryland conditions. By planting cotton at specific spacings and using certain fertilizer levels, researchers discovered that planting cotton with cowpea or clusterbean in a 1:1 row proportion resulted in the highest yields and profits. Using 125% of the recommended fertilizer also led to increased cotton production and profitability. This information can help farmers in Vidarbha region of Maharashtra improve their crop yields and income.
