Oilseed crops like groundnut and soybean are important for Maharashtra's agricultural economy. Data from 1983 to 2014 shows that groundnut growth rates were stagnant, with high variation in area, production, and productivity. Soybean, on the other hand, had significant growth in area and production, but stagnant productivity in two periods. Soybean also showed high instability in production compared to area and productivity. Overall, groundnut had more variation, while soybean had more growth in Maharashtra.
