Land surface model accurately simulates water balance in Australian catchments
The VB95 land surface model was tested against catchment runoff in the Murrumbidgee River Basin. The model accurately simulated the water balance response to different climates in the catchments. It showed errors in mean annual runoff ranging from -25% to +85%, with overestimations in wetter areas. However, errors in mean annual evapotranspiration were only around 10%. This suggests that the model can effectively estimate how much water is lost through evaporation and how much becomes runoff in these areas.
