Air-conditioning systems could slash energy costs with new variable-speed equipment detection method.
Motor-driven equipment in air-conditioning systems can be either variable- or constant-speed, affecting energy consumption. This study analyzed energy data to identify variable-speed equipment without prior knowledge of the equipment type. By calculating a coefficient of the median and other parameters, researchers successfully distinguished between variable- and constant-speed equipment based on energy consumption patterns. This method could help improve energy efficiency in air-conditioning systems.
