High genetic variability in chickpeas leads to potential for improved yields.
The study looked at different traits in 60 chickpea genotypes to see how much of the variation was due to genetics. They found that there was a lot of genetic variability among the genotypes. Traits like number of branches, plant height, seed yield, and seed weight are mostly controlled by genes and can be improved through selective breeding. Some genotypes flowered early, while others had high seed yields. This information can help breeders develop better chickpea varieties in the future.
