China's Baiyangdian Basin Faces Alarming Agricultural Pollution Crisis, Urgent Action Needed
The study looked at pollution from farms in Baiyangdian Basin, China, and how different policies affected it. Livestock and poultry caused the most chemical pollution, while rural homes were the main source of nitrogen and phosphorus. Planting contributed to ammonia pollution. Pollution was highest in the south and east of the basin. Thanks to pollution control policies, pollution levels decreased by around 45-60% from 2016 to 2020. To reduce pollution, focus should be on cutting pollution from livestock, poultry, and planting.
