Potassium-enriched maize boosts nutrient content, transforming food security for smallholder farmers.
The study looked at how different levels of potassium affected the soil and nutrient uptake by maize plants. They tested various amounts of potassium along with farmyard manure on a sandy loam soil. The results showed that the treatment with the highest potassium level and farmyard manure had the highest potassium content in both the grain and stover of the maize plants. Additionally, this treatment also led to higher uptake of nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium by the plants compared to other treatments. Overall, adding potassium and farmyard manure to the soil can improve the nutrient content and uptake by maize crops.
