Researchers studied how different tomato plants combine to produce higher yields. They created 21 new tomato hybrids from seven parent plants and tested them in a field. They found that both the genes from the parents and the interactions between them affect the traits related to yield. Some parent plants were better at contributing to higher yields, while certain hybrid combinations showed the best performance for producing more fruits.
