Workplace injuries cost companies thousands, amputations most expensive.
Workers' Compensation (WC) payments were analyzed using data from a large insurance provider from 2011-2018. Out of 151,959 closed claims, 83% were for medical expenses only. The average payment per claim was $1477. Payments varied based on the severity of the claim, with amputations costing the most for medical claims and ruptures for disability and death claims. Overall, strains had the highest cost burden due to their frequency. It is important for workplaces to focus on reducing both the average costs and the frequency of claims.
