Domestic heat pumps go green with low-emission refrigerants, slashing climate impact.
The scientists looked at different refrigerants for home heat pumps to find ones that are more eco-friendly. They checked if these new refrigerants could help reduce the impact on the climate compared to the common one, R410A. By comparing six refrigerants like HFC32 and blends with lower global warming potential (GWP), they found that a mix of HFC32 and HFO1234ze(E) with a GWP of 300 is the best option in terms of environmental impact over the lifetime of a heat pump. So, using these newer refrigerants can cut down on greenhouse gas emissions when generating energy for heat pumps, which is good news for the environment.
