Green gram leads the way: Pulse crop production booming in India
The study looked at how different pulse crops like green gram, black gram, chickpea, pigeon pea, and lentil are grown in India from 1998 to 2018. They analyzed the growth and contributions of area and yield to production using data from the Indian government. Green gram had the highest growth in area and production in the first period, while black gram had the highest yield growth. In the second period, black gram showed the highest growth in area, production, and yield. Overall, pulse crops had low instability in their growth. The study found that yield and area were the main factors contributing to the growth of pulse production. This information helps understand how farmers' lives are affected by growing these crops and identifies trends in pulse cultivation.
