ASEAN is trying to become more economically competitive by creating a single market like the EU. However, there are big differences between the two, making it challenging for ASEAN to follow the EU's path. The article compares the economic integration of the EU and ASEAN, highlighting historical backgrounds and other differences. Recommendations are given to help ASEAN handle upcoming changes as they become a stronger economic community in 2015.
