Slopes Steeper, Erosion Faster: Mount Merapi Study Reveals Alarming Impact.
The study looked at how the steepness of a slope affects how water infiltrates and erodes the soil. By testing different slope angles in a lab with simulated rainfall, the researchers found that steeper slopes have higher erosion rates and lower infiltration capacities. For every 1-degree increase in slope steepness, erosion rates increased by 15% to 33%. The study also developed equations to show the relationship between slope steepness and both infiltration capacity and erosion rates.
