Maize-Chickpea Intercropping Boosts Yields with Integrated Nitrogen Management.
Researchers studied how different ways of growing maize and chickpea together, along with different nitrogen fertilization methods, affected their growth and yield. They found that intercropping maize with chickpea in a 1:1 ratio resulted in higher yields for both crops. Using a combination of 50% recommended nitrogen dose, vermicompost, and farmyard manure also led to better growth and yields for both crops. This approach increased plant height, cob size, grain yield, and protein content in both maize and chickpea, ultimately resulting in higher overall yields for the intercropped system.
