New dam in Liberia to boost hydropower by over 50%!
A model was created to predict river flow in Liberia to help generate more electricity from hydropower. The model uses rainfall data to estimate how much water will flow in the river each month. This is important because the country needs more electricity, and the current hydropower plant doesn't work well in the dry season. By building a dam on the Via River, the amount of energy produced could increase by over 50%. This model is the first of its kind in Liberia and was a challenge to create due to the lack of historical data.
