New cotton hybrids show significant increase in yield and quality traits.
A study in upland cotton looked at how different hybrids performed in terms of seed cotton yield and related traits at three locations. Some hybrids showed significant and positive heterosis, meaning they had better yields and other desirable characteristics compared to the standard check. One hybrid, G(B) 20 x G.Cot.10, stood out with the highest heterosis for seed cotton yield per plant and improvements in traits like boll weight and number of seeds per boll. This research helps us understand how hybridization can lead to better cotton yields and quality.
