The study looked at a steep slope at a hydropower station in China to understand why it was deforming. They found that the slope's rock mass was weak, and excavation work made it worse. Rainwater seeped into the slope, making it unstable. Traditional monitoring methods couldn't keep up with the changes, so a new system was introduced to warn of potential landslides.
