New method uses plants to create accurate soil salinity maps!
Soil salinity mapping in arid regions is challenging, but this study found that using spectral indices from vegetation and bare soil can help predict soil salinity. By measuring the reflectance of different plant species and bare soil, researchers identified a strong correlation between the Spectral Response Index (SRI) and soil salinity. The model developed based on this index accurately predicted soil salinity levels, with a high correlation to field observations. This method offers a reliable way to map soil salinity in arid regions, making it easier and more cost-effective to monitor and manage soil quality.
