Pollution at Varanasi Ghats Threatens Health and Ecosystem of River Ganga.
The researchers studied the pollution of surface water at the Ghats along the Ganga River in Varanasi. They looked at various water quality parameters like temperature, pH, and oxygen levels in February 2015. The water at all four Ghats was found to be of poor quality, which can harm humans, animals, and the environment. The main sources of pollution were ritual activities, waste water, temple effluents, and animal waste.
