Heating and cooling costs slashed by innovative heat pump system
This research looked at a new heating system that can use different natural sources efficiently for heating, cooling, and hot water. By comparing temperatures of these sources, the system decides which one to use. They made a computer model to predict temperatures, electricity needed, and system efficiency. When compared to other common systems, this new one used less electricity by 13–19% compared to air source heat pumps, and 1–3% less compared to ground source heat pumps. This new system works best in areas with less need for heating.
