Regrettable pollution levels in Algerian lake threaten water quality for irrigation.
The researchers studied water quality in Reghaia lake basin in Algeria to see how polluted it is and where the pollution is coming from. They looked at water samples from different spots in the lake and its rivers over several years. The results showed that the lake has been very polluted since the 1970s, mainly from untreated sewage. The water is not good for irrigation and has a lot of organic pollution. The rivers flowing into the lake are the main sources of pollution, especially for bacteria. The lake is very rich in nutrients, which is not good for its health. If pollution continues, the lake will stay dirty and unhealthy.
