New study finds ovarian tissue freezing more cost-effective for fertility preservation
Fertility preservation options for women facing cancer treatment have expanded to include ovarian tissue freezing. A study compared the cost-effectiveness of freezing mature eggs versus ovarian tissue for future fertility. Freezing eggs is more expensive but more effective at achieving live births compared to freezing ovarian tissue. Egg freezing costs 10,032 with an effectiveness of 1.0%. Egg freezing is more cost-effective if the utilization rate is 63% or higher, or if the cost of egg freezing is less than $8,100.
