New sunflower hybrids show significant yield increase potential for farmers.
The researchers aimed to improve sunflower hybrids' oil content and seed yield by crossing different parental lines. They created 24 hybrids and tested them for yield traits. Some hybrids showed significant positive heterosis for yield and oil content, while others had negative heterosis for flowering time. Hybrids like CMS 17 A X EC-601951 R and PET 89-1 x RHA-1-1 performed well and can be used in future sunflower breeding programs to increase hybrid vigor.
