New maize hybrids show potential for higher grain yield and quality!
Researchers studied maize plants to find out which combinations of parent plants produce the best hybrids for grain yield. They crossed different inbred lines with testers to analyze how genes affect traits like grain yield. They discovered that certain parent plants, like DMIL 3, DMIL 30, and DMIL 35, were the best at passing on good traits. The hybrids DMIL 30 × DMIL 58, DMIL 17 × DMIL 58, and DMIL 35 × DMIL 58 showed the highest improvements in grain yield compared to standard plants. These hybrids should be tested in different locations and seasons to find the best ones for farming.
