China's Energy Revolution Faces Paradox: Renewables Hindered by Fossil Dominance.
China is working towards using more renewable energy and reducing carbon emissions as part of its energy revolution. The goal is for renewable energy to make up half of China's energy by 2050. However, there is a paradox because while China is making progress in renewable energy, it is still heavily reliant on fossil fuels. This is due to social and economic challenges, not technological ones. To address this, there needs to be better coordination between different interests during the energy transition, clearer rules in the energy sector, cleaner production of renewable energy, and phasing out of unnecessary fossil fuel subsidies.
