Extreme Precipitation Surges Across China, Heightening Flood Risks
This research used two computer models to predict future rainfall changes in China. The models were tested on past data and then used to predict rainfall patterns for the years 2031-2060 and 2061-2090 based on a global climate model. They found that the models corrected past mistakes in rainfall predictions and showed that future extreme rainfall events will be more intense, leading to a higher risk of flooding in many regions. Some areas in China will have more rain per rainy day, while others will have fewer rainy days overall, especially in the summer. The study helps us understand how rainfall might change in the future, allowing for better planning to deal with the increased risk of flooding.
