Equatorial regions emerge as global hubs of thriving ecosystems
In this research, scientists analyzed how healthy ecosystems are around the world from 2000 to 2015. They used a model called VORS to rate ecosystem health based on factors like strength, organization, resilience, and services provided. The study found that regions with the highest ecosystem health are mostly close to the Equator. They identified seven special zones with very healthy ecosystems in specific areas. Rainfall and soil moisture levels are crucial for ecosystem health globally, and social factors also affect areas with lower health levels. This research helps us better understand ecosystem health, helps in managing and restoring ecosystems, and can guide us on how to protect these vital natural systems.
