Rainfall and Human Activity Fuel Nitrogen and Phosphorus Pollution in Rivers
The study looked at nitrogen and phosphorus pollution in a small watershed. They found that runoff and pollution levels were influenced by rainfall. Ammonia nitrogen was highest in spring, while nitrate nitrogen was the main form of total nitrogen pollution. Phosphorus pollution was mainly from particulate phosphorus, which increased with rainfall. Nitrate nitrogen and particulate phosphorus were the main pollutants during the summer months.
