Climate-saving tech could drain the world's water supply
Carbon capture and storage (CCS) technologies are crucial for reducing CO2 emissions and fighting climate change. Different CCS methods have varying water footprints, with Bioenergy with CCS requiring the most water due to plant transpiration. If widely adopted to meet climate goals, CCS could significantly increase water scarcity globally. Using a mix of CCS technologies is better for water resources than relying on just one. To stabilize the climate efficiently, we need to decarbonize our energy systems quickly and improve energy efficiency.
