Wetland plants boost water quality, reducing pollutants by over 30%!
A model was used to study how wetland plants affect water quality in Guishui River. The model showed that having wetland vegetation reduced ammonia nitrogen, phosphate, and total nitrogen in the water. Water circulation increased flow rate and vegetation areas in the rivers. The presence of wetlands and circulation improved water quality by decreasing nitrogen and phosphate levels at the outflow. This study supports using wetland plants to help clean up water in rivers and lakes.
