Behali Reserve Forest in India Boasts Rich Diversity of Woody Species
The researchers studied the diversity of trees in Behali Reserve Forest in Assam, India. They looked at 35 different areas and found a total of 128 tree species. The most common family of trees was Lauraceae, with 19 species. The forest had a high density of trees, with an average of 543 trees per hectare. They found that the forest had the highest diversity in areas with medium levels of disturbance, while areas with low or high disturbance had lower diversity. Overall, Behali Reserve Forest had a high number of tree species, a large basal area, and a high tree density compared to other forests in the region.
