Hybrid cars economically outperform traditional vehicles, but face growing competition.
Hybrid cars are a promising solution for improving fuel efficiency and reducing environmental impact. A study found that out of 29 hybrid cars in the US market, only 7 are cheaper for drivers than traditional petrol or diesel cars. Despite this, buying a hybrid car is more economically beneficial than a similar car with a regular engine. However, as gasoline-powered cars become more efficient, hybrids are losing their competitive edge. The study suggests that the fuel efficiency of hybrid cars depends on factors like daily mileage and average speed, with lower mileage and speed making hybrid cars cheaper to run. Unlike traditional cars, hybrids are more efficient in traffic jams and at low speeds.
