Revolutionizing aquaculture: Pengba thrives in polyculture with major carps.
The researchers studied if pengba fish can be raised with other carps in net-pen enclosures in Takmu Lake, Manipur. They built a net-pen and stocked it with different fish species. The pengba fish showed the highest growth rate, followed by C. idella, L. catla, C. mrigala, L. rohita, C. carpio, and H. molitrix. Feeding the fish with pelleted feed twice a day for 180 days resulted in good growth. The pen aquaculture system was economically viable with a benefit-cost ratio of 1.37. This study shows that raising pengba fish with other carps in net-pen enclosures is both profitable and technically feasible in Manipur's wetlands.
