Paper Summary

A study compared two types of wetlands to see which is better for treating wastewater and generating power. They found that the vertical subsurface flow wetland removed more suspended solids and nutrients than the free surface flow wetland. Both wetlands removed a high percentage of pollutants like chemical oxygen demand and heavy metals. The free surface flow wetland produced more electricity than the vertical subsurface flow wetland.
